Queer Creativity, Sex Worker History, and Movement Building with Huck Reyes

What happens when art becomes a tool for connection and history becomes a form of advocacy? Huck Reyes, a Filipino American writer, photographer, and community organizer, joins Power Beyond Pride hosts Shawn Aaron and Shane Lukas to explore the intersections of queer identity, sex work, creativity, and social change. Huck discusses their approach to photography, their evolving relationship with sex work, and their research into the often-overlooked role sex workers have played in the development of queer and trans movements. The conversation also examines the effects of stigma, purity culture, and exclusion within progressive spaces, challenging communities to move beyond verbal support and demonstrate their values through meaningful action. From grassroots organizing to literary projects supporting BIPOC sex worker writers, this episode celebrates the power of storytelling to preserve history, build connection, and transform the future.
