The Project

Pride is a time to celebrate the newfound acceptability that many in the LGBTQ+ community are experiencing. Yet, a large number of friends, families and neighbors remain in the margins (such as relating to race, ability, gender, gender expression, immigration status, etc.) facing the real implications of an unequal advance in LGBTQ+ civil rights, such as expanding poverty or increased risk of HIV transmission experienced by our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and neighbors. This initiative aims to broaden the conversation with and about the LGBTQ+ community, by examining and expanding the values we celebrate and raising awareness of intersections often sidelined or excluded from public discourse around queer representation.

By asking the community to embrace Pride in expansive ways that incorporate other values (courage, strength, generosity, care, etc.) important to our community and in ourselves, Power Beyond Pride focuses on action-based transformation initiated through community discussion, engaging dialog, and lifting up voices that are often spoken over, and issues that we cannot afford to shrug off.

Power Beyond Pride is not an organization. Instead, it is a coalition of volunteers looking to make a difference in the community through partnerships, conversations, and a look forward at what the future of queer can be.
